History

When Iredell Memorial Hospital opened in 1954, we were a 100-bed hospital with a mission focused on the well-being of the community we serve. The name, Iredell Memorial Hospital, was selected by a board of trustees as a memorial to all members of armed forces from Iredell County who gave their lives in defense of the United States.

Although we have grown to a 247-bed hospital to meet the needs of the community today, the buildings and grounds are still owned by the citizens of Iredell County and all revenue is reinvested in medical technology and staff. Because we are a nonprofit hospital, our focus is on promoting health and wellness in our community, not on the bottom line.

Our dedication to our community is evident in the five-star customer service awards we consistently receive. Our purpose is to provide advanced healthcare while maintaining the warmth and compassion of a community hospital, giving our patients the peace of mind that they are getting the best medical care available.

As numerous freestanding services were added to meet the needs of the community, we became Iredell Health System. Today we employ approximately 1,600 people, making us the third-largest employer in Iredell County. There are approximately 260 physicians on staff representing a variety of specialties. Iredell offers convenient and easy access to state-of-the-art diagnostics and comprehensive health services.

Locally owned and managed

Iredell Health System is a nonprofit organization that is locally owned and managed. This means there are no shareholders to pay dividends to. All profits remain in the community to maintain and upgrade technology, to employ a highly skilled staff and to provide health and wellness services to serve the community. The buildings and grounds of Iredell Memorial Hospital are owned by the citizens of Iredell County. The hospital receives no tax dollars and is leased from Iredell County by a local board of trustees. The operation of the hospital is the responsibility of a board of directors elected by, and chosen from among, the trustees.

Iredell Health System continues to play a pivotal role in providing healthcare services to the uninsured and the underinsured in the county. Iredell Health System carefully considers each patient's ability to pay for their medical care. We are committed to treating patients who have financial needs with the same dignity and consideration that is extended to all of our patients. We are also supportive of many local events and organizations.

Award-winning care

Iredell Health System maintains a Community Cancer Program certified by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer.

The Joint Commission has certified Iredell Memorial Hospital as a Primary Stroke Center for our long-term success in improving the outcomes of stroke patients.

The American Heart Association consistently recognizes Iredell Memorial Hospital as a Get With The Guidelines-Stroke GOLD PLUS Achievement Award Hospital.

We are accredited by the American College of Cardiology as a Chest Pain Center.

The Iredell Wound and Hyperbaric Center annually receives the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award, because it has met the Center of Distinction quality standards for two consecutive years.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked Iredell Memorial Hospital as "high performing" in the categories of heart attack, heart failure, and chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (COPD).

Iredell Home Health is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care for its dedication and commitment to delivering the highest quality of services to its patients.

Iredell Health System received the 2021 Healthiest Employers Award from the Charlotte Business Journal.
