Pharmacy

The hospital maintains a well-stocked pharmacy that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by licensed pharmacists who dispense medications as prescribed by the patient's doctor. The pharmacists monitor drug therapy and make recommendations that ensure drug use is appropriate for, and not contraindicated by, the patient's diagnosis or condition. Pharmacists promote cost-effective drug use and provide accurate and timely drug information to other healthcare professionals.

The hospital has invested in technology to improve medication safety and to minimize the incidence of medication errors. Drugs are dispensed to inpatients via a robotic drug distribution system that uses bar-coded unit dose medications. Nurses use bar-code scanners at the patient's bedside to scan the medications and patient's identification bracelets to help ensure that the patient is receiving the correct drug and dose at the appropriate time and by the correct route.
